Q. Is there a difference between Rogaine’s active ingredient (i.e. minoxidil) and that of MinoxidilMax LLC?
A. No. Both use minoxidil as the effective ingredient. The difference is that Minoxidilmax has other effective ingredients such as finasteride, azelaic acid, ABN complex retinol, caffeine in some formula.
Q. How do I know if your product has the amount of minoxidil you claim?
A. Most of our customers came to us because they were not satisfied with regular minoxidil solutions for the following reasons: The regular minoxidil solutions a) have minoxidil concentration no higher than 5%; b) do not contain other ingredients such as azelaic acid, retinol, etc.; c) take too long to dry; d) cause scalp irritation.
We have our product tested by independent reputable USA lab to ensure that the concentration meets our specification. As far as we know, there is no other supplier of 15% minoxidil that has been tested and pass the specification.
See the testing result at the end of this page.
Q. Which product should I choose between DualGen-15 NO PG or DualGen-15 With PG?
A. Please be advised that both products are exclusively for men, not for women. So if you are a woman, you should not use either of them. We initially only offered Dualgen-15 NO PG. Later we added Dualgen-15 With PG in response to the request of some of our customers. These two products have the same effective ingredients (15% minoxidil, 5% azelaic acid, 0.025% retinol, and 0.001% caffeine) and are equally effective. The only difference is that DualGen-15 NO PG uses glycerin, whereas DualGen-15 With PG uses propylene glycol as the delivery vehicle. The use of glycerin in DualGen-15 NO PGeliminates any scalp irritation caused by propylene glycol that is seen in ~10% users. It also slows down slightly the drying time. So if you know you are allergic to propylene glycol, it is recommended to use DualGen-15 NO PG. Otherwise, you can consider DualGen-15 With PG.
Q. How long does it take to dry DualGen-15 NO PG or DualGen-15 With PG?
A. DualGen-15 takes slightly longer time than regular 5% minoxidil (such as Rogaine liquid or Kirkland 5% minoxidil) to dry due to the fact that it has larger amount of minoxidil and additional effective ingredients. If properly applied, most of the product should be absorbed within one hour. You can wash you hair 2 hours after the application. There are several ways to help absorb the solution faster: A) try to apply the solution directly to your scalp and avoid your hair by parting your hair into one or more rows to maximize the scalp exposure. The solution applied to the hair will never be absorbed by your scalp, resulting in wasting product and greasy hair; B) carefully spread the solution evenly on your scalp using your finger tips.
Q. Should a 15% minoxidil with 5% azelaic acid solution be yellowish?
A. You might have heard from somewhere that 15% minoxidil should be yellowish because of azelaic acid it. That is only partially correct. When you have very pure minoxidil and azelaic acid and compound them together, it is almost colorless when it is just compounded. The yellow color slowly develops as it ages. Even a solution with just 5% minoxidil (without azelaic acid) will change to yellowish color if it is stored long enough. Our Dualgen-15 always has the yellowish color because of the ingredient retinol in it.
Q. How can I know that using a high concentration minoxidil solution isn’t an overdose and/or won’t be counterproductive to hair growth?
A. Minoxidil has to have a serum concentration of 20 ng/mL to have any hemodynamic or other systemic effect in the human body. Allowing for 1.7% absorption of minoxidil from topical application, a 2% minoxidil solution will result in 0.6 ng/ mL and a 5% minoxidil solution will result in 1.2 ng / mL of minoxidil in the serum. So, there is more than a 16-fold safety margin from the use of 5% topical minoxidil and a 5-fold safety margin with the use of a 15% topical minoxidil solution.
Q. Can you tell me the solvent composition of your product?
A. Sorry that we cannot disclose that information as it is our trade secret. We have done very extensive experiments to find the right solvent composition to ensure our products have the optimal absorption, usability and effectiveness.
Q. Is a glycerin based formula less effective than a propylene glycol based formula with the same minoxidil concentration?
A. No. Both glycerin and propylene glycol are pharmacologically inactive ingredients in the minoxidil products. They are used in minoxidil solutions as solvent so minoxidil can be in solution form. In addition, their slow rate of evaporation allows the effective ingredients minoxidil to form a thin film on the scalp for continued absorption after the alcohol necessary to the base solution has penetrated.
Q. Can I expect improved results with the higher concentrations of minoxidil?
A. The 5% and higher minoxidil solutions have the potential to promote regrowth of more hair and thicker hair, but they do not change the genetic properties of the hair follicles. Although the growth ((anagen) phase may be lengthened, the dormant (telogen) phase of approximately 3 months is unchanged. In order to see results, the existing thin hair shafts need to be replaced with thicker ones. This is why it usually takes between 3 and 6 months to appreciate significant hair regrowth with any concentration of minoxidil solution of 2% or greater.
Q. Does minoxidil harm healthy hair?
A. Not at all. Although the exact pharmacodynamics of minoxidil are not well understood, the effect of minoxidil is to safely promote growth and to maintain maturity of the hair follicles. These effects are most observable in hair follicles affected by MPB.
